Your Wedding Day Photography Timeline
Every wedding timeline looks fine on paper. The difference between a calm photo day and a rushed one usually comes down to three buffers most timelines skip — so here's the schedule we build with our couples, with the honest time each block really needs.
Getting ready: 45–60 minutes with each side, and this is where a husband-and-wife team quietly earns its keep — we're in both rooms at once, so nobody's morning gets skipped. Put the details (rings, invitations, heirlooms) in one box beforehand and you buy back fifteen minutes.
First look, if you're having one: 15 quiet minutes, private, before anyone else sees you. It also unlocks doing most portraits before the ceremony — which is the single biggest de-stressor available on a wedding day. Ceremony: whatever it needs; we never rush this. Family formals: 20–30 minutes with a named shot list we build together in advance (the list matters more than the time).
Couple portraits: two short sessions beat one long one — 20 minutes after the ceremony, then 10 minutes at sunset when the light peaks and you'll want a breather from the party anyway. Reception: from grand entrance through the first dances, then we work the candids, which is where your favorite photos are hiding.
The three buffers: 15 minutes before the ceremony for absolutely nothing (something always uses it), travel time between locations padded by half, and that sunset break. Build those in and the day breathes.
